Editorial Assistant  

Key Responsibilities

Publishing & Content Management

• Upload, manage, and publish multimedia content using the Content Management System (CMS).
• Assist reporters and editors in posting breaking news, images, and videos for online publication, including basic editing and file conversion.
• Proofread articles and verify accuracy of edited copy for grammar, punctuation, and typographical errors.
• Ensure all published content complies with Inquirer Editorial Stylebook and formatting requirements (e.g., correct headlines, bylines, captions, taglines, datelines).
• Uploads and format stories, photos, videos and multimedia elements in the CMS for web and app publication.

Photo, Multimedia Support and Management

• Assists editors by sourcing and selecting appropriate photographs or visuals for stories.
• Prepares images for web publication by enhancing, color correcting, cropping, and adjusting resolution as needed.
• Performs digital manipulations as necessary, such as blurring sensitive content (e.g., graphic images or private information like vehicle license plates).
• Creates composite images and face-off photos to emphasize conflicts or highlight key figures in stories.
• Maintain an organized and searchable photo library in the CMS, ensuring adherence to file naming conventions.
• Optimizes photographs for social media to ensure proper display dimensions and prevent issues such as cropping out important features like a person’s head.
• Sources photographs from traditional and social media platforms to find images that best fit the story’s needs.
• Process and upload daily photographs from staff photographers
• Optimize photos and graphics with appropriate file sizes, captions, alt text, and metadata for SEO and social media performance.
• Ensures photographs adhere to specific file naming conventions for optimal searchability.
• Verifies that photos meet the required resolution standards.
• Processes (renames files) and uploads photos and other visuals for use by Inquirer

SEO & Metadata

• Optimize images for web use, including resizing and file compression.
• Provide or update SEO elements (titles, descriptions, tags) for stories, especially where editors need assistance
• Assists editors who need help incorporating SEO into their edited stories.

Administrative and Editorial Support

• Assists editors and reporters with downloading files, including videos, and converts files to the appropriate format.
• Manages the proper forwarding and archiving of filed stories, invitations, corrections, letters, and other content received through the editorial email account and other channels.
• Supports other Inquirer platforms and titles by facilitating their use of the CMS and posting of multimedia content.
• Carriers out additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a related field.

Experience:

• At least 1 year of experience in a publishing or media-related environment.
• Open to fresh graduates with relevant experience in related fields

• Proficient in using CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress)
